Executive Summary

This study focuses on the East Asia-North America West Coast route (eastbound), focusing on Japan, in order to contribute to the examination of future port calling behavior of shipping companies, which is necessary when considering the future development of container terminals in Japan. Looking at the flow of container cargo in the East Asian region from a macro perspective such as between countries and regions, focusing particularly on the development of container terminals and the behavior of shipping companies, we constructed a model that explains the selection of ports of call, and developed an international container route. This is a system analysis.
In the analysis, we were able to build a model that explains the number of ships calling at international container routes, feeder transported cargo, etc. as a result of the behavior of shipping companies in terms of port charges, port facilities, transportation costs, and operation frequency.
As a result, it was possible to verify, on a model basis, that container ship calls and container flow would change significantly due to factors such as port charges, larger vessels, and the development of deep-water berths. confirmed to be an important factor.
