Executive Summary

The ultrasonic sand rippler meter that is buried under the sea bottom is developed for measuring the profile of sand ripples.
 The results are as follows:
(1)The interface between the sea water and the sand bottom can be detected in the bed.
(2)The sound velocity, the propagation frequency, and the damping constant in the bottom sand where a part of the void is filled with the air are compared with those in the sand where the void is entirely filled with the water.
(3)The system of the sand ripple meter has been designed based on the experimental data.
