Executive Summary

Large embedded rigid structures are subjected to seimic force that have phase difference at the different depth. We studied effect of ground motion distribution around structures to the response of structure, the dynamic earth pressure distribution and the phase differenece between the inertia force and the dynamic earth pressure and so on. The model we used in this study was simple analytical model in which the massive structure and the surrounding ground were idealized into a rigid body supported ground springs. The free field displacements were calculated by the multiple refrection theory. Results of response analysis by this moldel were compared with those by FEM analysis and observation.
As a results of preset study, effect of dynamic earth pressure is more important than that of inertia force of structures in low frequency range, and it is necessary for estimating dynamic earth pressure to consider ground motion distribution in the depth direction. And we showed characteristics of structure response, the dynamic earth pressure distribution and the phase difference between inertia force and dynamic earth pressure resultant force and so on.
