Executive Summary

Follow up studies of Technical Note of the P.H.R.I.#152 Dec. 1972 is reported in this paper.
The findings of our studies are as folloes:
(1)Cargo have been carried by barges may decrease to under 80% according to the foreseeable chage in the port operation.
(2)The break-even point for barge operation, 4 to 5 Rounds/Month, is assured. Actual figures of 3.7 Rounds/Month is far from the above condition. Barge can make the balance under the existing conditin only by ignoring repayment and returns.
(3)The weight of barge traffics in whole marine traffic within the port area is not so small. If they converted to road traffic, significant loads will be added to land transport just behind the port area.
(4)The effeciency of loading and unloading of barges at wharf is fairly good.
