Executive Summary

Drop tests were carried out to evaluate the impact resistivi ty of the reinforced concrete containers for disposal of radioactive wastes.
The tests were made using the fourteen model containers of five different types of 1/2 to 1/3 of the prototype proposed for the practical purposes. The impac was loaded on the model container through dropping them onto the test slab of massive concrete from the height of 1 to 3 meters under various conditions to simulate the collision with the rocky sea bottom at the depth of 2,000 meters or more when disposed into the sea and the accidental collision anticipated during their handling and shipping operations. The impact resistivity of the containers was evaluated based on the observed dynamic strain distribution in concrete and reinforcing steel and the crack formation in concrete.
