Maritime Structures Group

Our Maritime Structures Group investigates the stability of port and harbor structures, like breakwaters, against  wave action. These wave forces impact not only the structures themselves but also the seabed, causing phenomena such as suction and scouring. To better understand the mechanics of this wave-seabed-structure interaction, we conduct physical model experiments in large-scale facilities and develop high-precision numerical simulation models.

Greetings from the Group Leader

Naoki Tsuruta
Breakwaters are essential port structures that prevent waves from entering the harbor and keep the harbor calm. Our research group is engaged in various research projects with the aim of establishing more rational and reliable breakwater design methods.
