From the 1960s to the present, more than 400 open-type wharves with prestressed concrete superstructure were constructed in Japan. However, the knowledge of maintenance of the superstructure (“PC wharf superstructure”) has not been accumulated, and the maintenance procedures have not been systematically organized.
In this report, from the maintenance knowledge accumulated in the bridges with prestressed concrete superstructure and open-type wharves with reinforced concrete superstructure, the elemental technologies applicable to the PC wharf superstructure and the points to be noted when applying them were extracted. Then, a series of flow of maintenance and management procedure, including inspection and diagnosis, performance evaluation and maintenance repair methods for PC wharf superstructure was summarized as "Guideline for maintenance and management of PC wharf superstructure for port engineers".
