Executive Summary

Observed nationwide coastal and offshore wind data, acquired by using the Nationwide Ocean Wave information network for Ports and HArbourS (NOWPHAS), were statistically analized from a view of wind energy utilization. Based on the observed wind data at 35 stations, characteristics of the wind speed distribution and annual, seasonal and monthly total wind energy is estimate. Among the 35 stations, 24 stations locate on nearshore land and 11 locate on sea-surface tower or on small island. Characteristics of on-land winds and on-sea-surface winds were compared by using the data set obtained at the Kansai-International-Airport construction site. On-sea-surface wind speed was more stable than on-land winds from the view point of the ratio between the standard diviation and the average value. Nationwide wind data also showed the similar ratio to the the Kansai-International-Airport data set.
