Owing to the recent expansion of East Asian economies, there has been rapid growth in the volume of containerized cargo transport in the world.
In addition this, the significant change in the foreign trade containerized cargo transport cause several factors, such as a change of the trade structure, the trend of enlarging the size of containerships, and reorganization of the consortium.
In this paper, the flow and trend of containerized cargo in the trade between Asia and North America were analyzed. Furthermore, the circumstances of ports of calling at container route are analyzed, and the report aimed to identify factors causing the gathering of containerized cargo in main ports in East Asia.
This analysis showed the flows of containerized cargo between East Asia and North America and the characteristics of flow patterns in principal East Asian ports. It also proved the relationship between the flow of containerized cargo and the circumstances of ports of calling at North American and intra Asian routes.
In particular, one of the characteristic trends of the cargo flow is that there has been great increases in the volume of transship cargo. This is owing to increase in capacity to collection of cargo by many feeder routes gathered in the East Asia region.
