Executive Summary

In the construction of port facilities, normally consolidated alluvial clay deposit often found in Japanese coastal area raise difficult problems. One of the solution for these problems is the deep improvement by means of sand compaction pile method.
In this paper, the effect of the improved ground on the horizontal resistance of the sheet wall type revetment was investigated. A series of centrifuge model tests was carried out under 25 gravitational field. Sea reclamation behind the sheet pile wall was performed again in centrifuge, changing the width of the improved ground and flexural rigidity of the sheet pile walls. The paper described the effect of the SCP improvement on the behaviour of the sheet wall type revetment.
