Executive Summary

This paper describes the development of a new system which can automate the execution control of pile driving work which have been done by man power. The new system is composed of a laser Doppler velocimeter and a personal computer. The driving displacement of a pile is measured by direct radiation of laser to the surface of the pile using a laser Doppler velocimeter. The measuring performance and precision were clarified through model experiments and field tests in pile driving
works.
The data obtained from the laser Doppler velocimeter are processed by a personal computer to be calculated the total number of drivings, the total amount of driving from the beginning to the end, the dynamic bearing capacity of a pile, etc. for the execution control.
The newly developed system can make all the execution control of pile driving works automatic.
