Executive Summary

 Trend of container cargo movement in international trade is analyzed by commodity and by sea line. Results of this paper are summarized as follows;
1)Portion of container trafffic in international trade has been stable at high level for several years.
2)International sea-borne cargo can be classified into two groups: highly containerized commodity group and poorly containerized commondity group.
3)Non-containerized cargoes which are transported by international liners are limited in both commodity type and sea line.
4)Container cargo movement has been influenced by macro economic performance and industrial structure of Japan.
