Executive Summary

Follow-up surveys on five artificially nourished beaches protected with detached breakwaters are carried out to study the topographic characteristics of the art ificial beaches. The wave climates at the investigated beaches are different.
Investigated items are as follows: (1)the topographic changes,(2)the volumes of the supplied sand and the remaining sand, (3)the relationships among the dimensions of quasi-stable artificial beaches such as the amplitude of a shoreline undulation and the length of a detached breakwater, (4)the relationships between the beach slopes behind a breakwater opening and those behind the breakwater, comparison of the foreshore slopes calculated through some formulas with the obserbved values, (5)the relationship between the berm heigt behind a breakwater opening and that behind the breakwater, comparison of predicted and measured berm heights.
