Executive Summary

 Cargo flow between a port and its hinterland was surveyed at twenty three major ports in three major bay regions, Tokyo, Osaka and Ise bay, in October, 1987.
 Item of commondity, volume and origin or destination of cargo, from of cargo (containerized or conventional) and other various information by each transaction were surveyed. More than 0.4 milion datas were collected and analysed.
 Result of the study are as follows:
 1. Volume of cargo and number of transaction increase in 1987 compare to these in 1982.
 2. Cargoes are more widely distributed in 1987 compare to these in 1982.
 3. Hinterlands of several major ports run into each other.
