Executive Summary

The meteorological and Oceanographical observation data at the Ashika-jima and the P.H.R.I. are analyzed statistically.
Characteristic aspects observed in these records are summarized as follows:
(1)Average temperature throughout the past three years (1984-1986) is 15.6°C. The highest and the lowest temperature measured are 36.0°C and -5.9°C, respectively.
(2)Average if the annual precipitation is 1576mm, which is a little smaller than that observed in Yokohama.
(3)Predominant wind direction at the two stations is NNW-NE.
(4)The tide observed at Ashika-jima Islet has the same harmonic constatns as that obserued at the P.H.R.I..
(5)Predominant resonance periods of Kurihama bay measured from tide records at the P.H.R.I. are 2 to 2.5 minutes and 12 to 15 mimutes, while the period measured from the tide records at Ashika-jima Islet is 2 to 2.5 minutes only.
(6)Annual average significant wave height and the significant wave period observed at Ashika-jima Islet are 0.50m and 4.1 s respectively. The highest significant wave height and the period was recorded at 06:00 on July 1, 1985 during the passage of Typhoon No.6.
