The number of profiles of breakwaters exceedes 1300, which have been constructed in major Japanese ports during 21 years from 1965 to 1985. Structural types of them various widely dependingon natural condition such as configuration, marine and soil condition. 　In this paper, profile and design condition of breakwaters are compiles as follows: (1)Respectively a latest breakwater is selected from 26 structural types of these breakwaters. (2)39 representative cases are selected, which have one of followingcharacteristics, from these breakwaters; 　a)both length of the breakwater is longer than 1000m and water depth of it is deeper than 15.0m below C.D.L. 　b)depth of the breakwateris deeper than 30.0m below C.D.L. 　c)Design wave height is greater than 8.0m. 　The characteristics of strctural types of these breakwaters are also briefly analysed in this paper.
