Executive Summary

Arc-shaped concrete memebers have been widely used for structures in land such as arch structures of bridges. In offshore structures, these members are being in
troduced to wave dissipating members of structures and so on. THe arc-shaped member in offshore structures is subjected to alternate large wave forces. Therefore, the mechanical properties of the member subjected to alternate forces must be investigated in design or analysis. In particular, not only the force of resistance but nonlinear properties must be made clear, which are referred to ability of deflection, energy dissipated, mechanism of fracture and so on. Moreover, the crack formation must be restricted from durability point of view.
Loading tests and nonlinear finite element analysis were carried out to know the nonlinear properties of the arc-shaped members. The presented paper describes these properties of the memebr through the experimental and analytical results.
