Executive Summary

In Japan, ports and harbours are developed greatly after the World War II. But, there are several problems to be improved concerns to the high rate port operation and the harbouring of ships in rough weather. This paper describes the analytical method of ship motions moored to quay walls and the application which are important to examine above those problems, ann consists of nine chapters.
Major contents of this paper are analytical method of ship motions moored to quay walls, method to determine the calmness index for high rate port operation and the design method of mooring system of floating offshore structures. It must be specially mentioned that the analytical method of ship motions moored to quay walls is established in taking account of the irregularities both wind and waves, the non-linear characteristics of the mooring systems and also appropriateness of the method is evaluated. Therefore, the present analytical method shoud be very useful for port planning and the design of mooring facilities of ports and harbours and the offshore structures.
