Executive Summary

 For the purpose of the application of the Remote Sensing technique to wide observation of sea phenomena,we tried the experimental observations in Osaka Bay by using MSS (multi-spectral scanner) loaded on the airplane. Observations with Mss in Osaka Bay had been carried out five times for five years (1977-1981), and then some significant findings have been obtained as a result of the above-mentioned investigations.
 In this note, these results are presented , and the data processing method and the problems for the application of Remote Sensing to wide observation of sea phenomena are discussed. The main results are summarized as follows;
(1) In order to be able to carry out sea truth observations more efficiently and rapidly, we have developed the towing type instruments for water observation and applied it to field observations.
(2) The sea water exchange through Tomogashima Channel are discussed based on the data with sea truth observations, which were obtained simultaneously with MSS measurements. As a result, the image of the water exchange are clarified.
(3) We applied the multivariate analysis to the data obtained from the MSS and the sea truth observation, and had a clue of making a quantitative analysis of MSS data.
