Executive Summary The soil particles causing turbidity compose flocs in the sea. The behavior of flocs composed in the sea is different from individual soil particles. The basic knowledge concerning the behavior of soil particles in the sea was gained by observing flocs composed in salt water under the microscope. The higher concentration of SS is, the higher concentration of salt for flocculation is, they are nerly in proportion within the limits of this experiment. In the same case of concentration of SS, the higher concentration of salt is, the larger floc size is. On the other hand, in the same case of concentration of salt, the higher concentration of SS is, the smaller floc size is. But it attains the maximum floc size soon. Generally, the mechanism of coagulation is explained by the theory of electrical phenomena at surface. So adaptation of that theory to the problem of coagulation in salt water was tried.
