Executive Summary The prefectual authority of Ibaragi is planning to construct an artificial recreational beach at the north coast of Kawarago Port, which is being now enlarged to develope the local industry. This paper shows the results of model experiments both on the variation of sea-bed topography and on the exchange of sea water conducted in order to find the suitable arrangement of structures and suitable beach profile. The model is 1/200 in horizontal scale and 1/100 in vertical one. In the preliminary test, was selected by the method of trial and error a wave which is suitable to reproduce the evolution of beach topography in winter and summer at the site. By using this wave under a periodical fluctuation of tide level, various arrangements of offshore breakwaters and groins were tested to find out the measure to protect the nourished sand beach. In the sea-water-exchange experiment, tide, constant current and small summer swell were reproduced. Finally the most suitable plan of structural arrangement and profile of artificial beach was proposed.
