Executive Summary

 The reinforced concrete slabs, generally designed as fixed slabs, are main structural members of port facilities. The paper deals with the theoretical and exper
imental works regarding fixed slabs subjected to concentrated loads.
 Slab specimens are 1.0m square and are restrained with the supporting concrete beams along the boundary. Test results In October, 1977,5.5 years after installation of curbing, appraising of coasting and observing of appearance were conducted. Following are the results obtained;
(1) Cleaning of steel surface before painting is most effective method to increase durability of coating.
(2) Strong-type-paint with first-class-cleaning is best material from the view point of coating durability and painting cost. On second-class-cleaning condition ordinary-type-paint is better material than standard-type-paint.
(3) Reflective sheets are weatherproof materials when they are attached to surface of curbings with good coating.
(4) Reinforced plastic curbings have to be used after giving careful appraisal to them.
 From these results improved standard of painting system applied on steel curbing is proposed.
