Executive Summary

The harbor facilities in Japan have been severely suffered by the great earthquakes. According to the progress in the field of the related science such as a seismology, reexamination to the damaged structures in the harbor must be useful to improve an aseismic design.
As the first step, the gravity quaywalls have been found out from the reports on the earthquake disaster and the needful data have been selected from 129 quaywalls on 49 harbors in 12 earthquakes.
In appendix A the seismic stability of the damaged quaywalls has been examined by the current design method and the seismic coefficient which corresponds to the intensity of the ground motion during the past earthquake has been estimated in each harbor. In appendix B a recording sheet with necessary items of investigation is presented for the future earthquake damage on the harbor structure.
