Executive Summary

The berthing energy, velocity of the ship were measured and the method of the Design Standard for estimating them were investigated in this paper.
 The findings of our studies are as follows;
 1) It is made sure from the results of our investigation that virtual mass of the ships caltilating the method of the Design Standard is underestimated.
 2) Virtual mass of the berthing ships is smaller at piled pier than at sheet pile quaywall, gravity quaywall.
 3) The legth from the first approaching point of the ship to centor of gravity is within twenty parcentage of the ship's total legth.The first approaching point of the ship is not almost near the center of gravity.Berthing energy do not almost excess the energy which is calculated under following condition, berthing velocity is 0.1m/sec, the first approaching point is centor of gravity, virtual mass is calculated by the method of the Design Standard.
