Executive Summary

In the first report, the authors reviewed the basic knowledge about the lime-soil reaction and described the possibility of the Deep-Lime-Mixing (D.L.M.) method for the improvement of weak clay in the works at land.
There are, however, urgent needs of quick stabilization in the harbour constructions in Japan. So the experiment work for D.L.M. method was excuted on the sea. The purposes of the experiment were the development of the new D.L.M. machine (model-3) for marine work conisdering the defects of previous model-2, and the investigation of stabilizing effects under the different environment from that encountered in the works at land.
During the experiment, model-3 worked quite well with one exception. Referring to the stabilizing effects, although the clay of the site had low lime-reactivity, D.L.M. method could attain the cone resistance of the order of 10kg/cm2 in a few weeks. Therefore this method is considered to be useful also in marine works.
