Executive Summary

The accurate measurement of the surface fluctuation of sea waves is not only indispensable with a view to make clear the wave properties in the coasts, but also very important to solve the various kinds of practical problems relating to coasts and harbours. As an effective means for that purpose, a wave meter of capacitance-type for field observation hasu been constructed nad several tests have been made for the vest probe available. In view of the results so far achieved, it has been proved that the wave meter of capacitance-type has the sufficient linearity, accuracy, dynamic response and stability for the reliable measurement of surface profiles.
In this report, the results of the tests on the properties of various probes are discussed, and subsequently, the outline of the three wave observation equipments of capacitance-type innstalled at the Port of Nagoya are descibed.
