Executive Summary
An extensive field test was performed to study the influence of the size and hardness of sampler tube upon the degree of disturbance of saturated clay sample. Also the dependance of disturbance on the sampling method was investigated. The results are summarised as follows;
i) The new drill pipe method, P.H.R.I. - 61 Method, proved to give less disturbance to sample than the ordinary method does.
ii) The hardness of sample tube has a certain bearing on the disturbance of soil. The harder a sampler tube is, the less disturbance is observed.
iii) The standard size of sample tube, 75mm in diameter and 100cm in length seems to be satisfactory from the view points of both sample disturbance and an efficiency in preparing test specimens.
