Executive Summary

Bishop's method of slices for stability analysis is said to be more rigorous than any other methods of stability analysis. In this report, the derivation of the Bishop's method and its limitation of calculation by the simplified formula are explaned. The effect of steady seepage and earthquake on stability of slopes is briefly explained.
The programming of the Bishop's method for the electronic computer TOSBAC 3123 is reported. As an example, stability analyses of the embankment of Kinkai Bay, which failed actually, are given.
