2017 Award Ceremony & Commemorative Lecture of Hamaguchi Award For enhancement of Tsunami/Coastal Disaster Resilience

　Award Ceremony & Commemorative Lecture of Hamaguchi Award for individuals and/or organizations that have made significant contributions to the enhancement of coastal resilience against tsunami, storm surge and other coastal disasters, will be held on November 1st, 2017.

　Commemorating World Tsunami Awareness Day of November 5, we have inaugurated the "Hamaguchi Award" for individuals and/or organizations that have made significant scientific or pragmatic contributions to the enhancement of coastal resilience against tsunami, storm surge and other coastal disasters, which will raise people's awareness of disaster resilience. The award is named after Mr. Hamaguchi Goryo who protected and saved a village from a tsunami about 150 years ago.Respectfully, we will be hosting the award ceremony and commemorative lecture by awardees as the schedule below:

(3) Awardees Two Individuals and One Group

○Philip Li-Fan Liu Vice President (Research and Technology) and Distinguished Professor, National University of Singapore; Class of 1912 Professor in Engineering, Emeritus, Cornell University, USA
・Made significant contributions in fundamental understanding of tsunami generation, propagation and coastal effects.
○Julio Kuroiwa　Professor Emeritus, National University of Engineering (UNI) Lima - Peru, and Director and General Manager of Disaster Risk Reduction Peru International SAC, Republic of Peru
・Developed plans to reduce tsunami disasters in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.
○Kuroshio Town (Kochi prefecture), Japan　*Awarded as a group
・Executed detailed tsunami disaster prevention activities and improved its inhabitants' awareness of disaster preparedness in addition to host High School Students Summit on World Tsunami Awareness Day in Kuroshio.
