Summary

In Japan, soft clayey strata lie thick in coastal areas. Moreover, large scale earthquakes and consequent tsunamis often attack coastal areas. Thus Japanese ports are contructed in severe natural conditions. Our division have conducted various researches on foundations of port facilities in order to construct port facilities efficiently and to maintain it functional.

From widely increasing consciousness towards environmental preservation in recent years, development of practical　using of by-products generated in various industries is expected. Therefore our division have studied on characteristics of several by-products, e.g. slag, fly ash, etc., and have researched a way to use these by-products as geo-materials, i.e. material for backfill, embankment and so forth.
