Earthquake and Structural Dynamics Group

Earthquake Resistant Structure Division is in charge of research and development related to earthquake disaster prevention and seismic design of port and airport facilities. Recent research topics include improvement of technologies for damage estimation, development of container cranes with improved seismic resistance, and development of technologies to improve seismic performance of airport facilities with small cost.

Seismic resistance of port and airport facilities is quite important because they are expected to serve as the bases for emergency transportation in case of large earthquakes. In fact, Kobe Port played a vital role for emergency transportation after the 1995 Hyogo-ken Nanbu earthquake. Earthquake Resistant Structure Division is in charge of developing new technologies to improve seismic performance of port and airport facilities with small cost.
