Intertidal Flat Experimental Facility (IFEF)
Intertidal flats are a habitat for various creatures and play an important role in seawater purification. The tidal flat ecosystem is reproduced in this facility. We placed the sediment taken from a natural tidal flat in the pools (W:8m, L:9m, D:1.5m) in which the tidal cycle, wave and flow regime can be controlled. Many typical tidal flat organisms have already colonized in this facility. New findings are being obtained by careful monitoring of the structures and functions of this tidal flat ecosystem.
